Monarch Plastic Surgery is proud to offer Smartlipo™, an FDA-approved, minimally invasive procedure used for removing small pockets of fat throughout the body. Monarch uses the most advanced technology available today — the Smartlipo™ TriPlex from Cynosure.
Smartlipo™ is a minimally invasive procedure that reduces unwanted fat and tightens skin. Using local anesthesia with mild sedation, your doctor will pass a small laser under the skin. The laser energy causes the fat cells to break apart and the overlying skin to become tighter, which results in less swelling, less bruising, and less downtime than traditional liposuction. The fat is then removed by a small suction cannula, or allowed to be reabsorbed into the body.
Who is a good candidate for Smartlipo™?
A patient’s overall health is the most important criteria in determining whether someone is a good candidate for Smartlipo. You may be a good candidate if:
While traditional liposuction can be effective at removing larger amounts of fat, Smartlipo is designed to treat smaller areas of localized fat. Traditional liposuction usually requires a general anesthetic, followed by the use of a compression garment for four to six weeks. Smartlipo utilizes smaller instruments, as well as laser energy. This allows the procedure to be performed under local anesthesia with mild sedation. The laser energy stimulates new collagen production to enhance skin tightening, and decreases swelling and bruising. Most patients can expect to limit compression to less than two weeks.
Smartlipo is often considered a more gentle method of contouring, and is associated with recovery that is much easier than traditional liposuction. In most cases, patients are able to return to work the day after surgery. Patients will see results of fat removal immediately, and skin will gradually tighten over a period of two to three months. To advance the healing process, patients will need to avoid strenuous exercise for at least two weeks.
To help you understand how Smartlipo™ works, we’ve filmed a live procedure on one of our patients, performed by board-certified surgeon Dr. Paul Leahy. The video will detail the process from start to finish, breaking down how Smartlipo™ can simply and effectively treat areas of cellulite.
In this video, you’ll watch as Dr. Leahy discusses problem areas with the patient, mapping out spots with extra skin and detailing the areas that can be improved with Smartlipo™. After the patient’s abdominal area has been numbed, Dr. Leahy penetrates the skin with a small laser to help break apart fat cells. When the laser treatment is finished, Dr. Leahy uses a small suction cannula — a tube that acts like a vacuum — to remove the fat cells from the targeted area.
