Light-Emitting Diode (LED) Therapy

Blue light photodynamic therapy offers effective, non-invasive, and pain-free treatment for mild to moderate acne — a condition that currently affects millions of adults, teens and children. A narrow band of blue light works to kill off acne bacteria in your skin.

Blue light treatments can either be used as a primary treatment, an alternative to pharmaceuticals and topicals, or an adjunct to skin care programs. Unlike other topical treatments, treatments with blue light have shown minimal adverse side effects or patient discomfort following treatment. Blue light treatments are mostly gentle, and do not harm surrounding tissue.

Patients who receive blue light therapy will sit in front of the blue light delivery system for about sixteen minutes. Treatments are spaced at weekly intervals, and the number of treatments, the duration of treatment times, and treatment interval may vary with the severity of a patient’s acne.

Light therapy may also be used to treat inflammation, to stimulate collagen production and to increase lymphatic drainage.
