  • To correct a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy
  • To balance a difference in breast size
  • As a reconstructive technique following breast surgery

Benefits of breast augmentation surgery

In addition to improved appearance and self-esteem, breast augmentation offers a number of physical and psychological benefits. Women who undergo breast augmentation report an improved quality of life and increased satisfaction with their sex lives. Breast augmentation can provide expanded options for women who feel that they have limited choices of flattering clothing or swimwear, and can also increase a woman's confidence in social and professional situations.

What to expect during your breast augmentation consult

During your breast augmentation consultation at Monarch Plastic Surgery, you will meet with one of our plastic surgeons, who will work with you to create an individualized treatment plan. Your surgeon will let you know if a breast augmentation is right for you, or if a combination of a breast lift and breast augmentation is necessary to achieve the results you want. In some cases, adding breast volume without also lifting the existing breast tissue will not create the desired appearance.

You can expect to discuss your options for implant size, type, and placement. You may wish to bring a list of your questions or concerns, a few tops to try on with sample implants, and a trusted friend or relative to provide a second opinion.

Type of implants

A breast implant is a silicone shell filled with either silicone gel or a salt-water solution known as saline. Your surgeon will help you determine the best type of implant for you based on your individual goals.

How does breast augmentation work?

During your breast augmentation procedure, you will be placed under general anesthesia. Your surgeon will insert an implant behind each breast to increase your bust line by one or more bra cup sizes. The size of the implant used will depend on your desired outcome and will be determined in your consultation with your doctor. Your surgeon will make an incision, either in the crease under the breast or in the armpit, to minimize scarring.

Who is a good candidate for breast augmentation?

The best candidates for breast augmentation are women who are looking for improvement in the way they look, are physically healthy, and have realistic expectations about the procedure. If your surgeon agrees that your goals are reasonable, then you may be an ideal candidate for the procedure.
