Physician Skin Care
Q. I have been using what I thought were the best skin care products available from a department store, but now I'm hearing about many products available only through a doctor's office. What can I find out about these products? Are they available for me to use? Do I need to make doctor's appointment? Are these products expensive?
A. There is a difference between physician skin care and department store or over-the- counter skin care products. Surprisingly, the physician strength products are comparable in price to department store products. If you are interested in utilizing physician office based products, you do not need to make an appointment with an actual physician, as many doctors now staff their offices with a Skin Care Specialist to assist with your individual skin care needs. (Consultations with out Skin Care Specialist are complimentary.)
Let me explain the difference between physician skin care products vs. "over-the-counter" products. The difference primarily lies in the levels of active ingredients (Glycolic Acid, Hydroguone, Kojic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Retinoids, etc.). When products are sold to the public in mass quantities, they must be mild enough for just about anyone to use: you, your grandmother and your children. The F.D.A. regulates product strength so that it is safe for all. The Physician Skin Care line of products are not available over-the-counter and can only be purchased through a physician's office. The strength of the ingredients can be much higher, and specific product concentrations are tailored to your individual needs. Therefore, by using physician skin care products, results are usually faster and better.
At Monarch Plastic Surgery our Skin Care Center caries many Physician Skin Care products to choose from. The latest product available is a new Human Growth Factor product called T.N.S. When you use this product, you'll notice a significant improvement in skin appearance within 90 days.
