Type I-is white and always burns
Type II-is white and usually burns, but tans with difficulty

Type IV-is moderate brown and vary rarely burns; tans easily
Type V-is dark brown and vary rarely burns; tans easily
Type VI-is black and never burns; tans easily
Skin of Asian, Indian, Hispanic or light African descent would likely be considered Type V
