Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I want my skin to look and feel better. Where do I begin?
A. With all the skin care information bombarding us today, you might think it's very confusing! All you want is what is best for your skin, and you want to repair and prevent as much damage as possible. It may be overwhelming for you to try to keep up with the constantly evolving technology, but luckily Monarch Skin Rejuvenation Center will do that for you.

The first thing for you to understand is that your skin is unique. If your best friend uses "the most wonderful product," it may do nothing for you, or you might even have a reaction to it. Your skin may be environmentally damaged, hypersensitive or acne- prone, to name a few types, or you may even have a combination of different skin types.

At Monarch Skin Rejuvenation Center, which is overseen by the five board-certified plastic surgeons of Monarch Plastic Surgery, our focus is on providing you with the individualized skin care recommendations you need to make your skin the best it can be. In addition to procedures such as microdermabrasion, light treatments and laser treatments, we offer our own Monarch full skin care product line.

But what sets these products apart from the mass-produced products available in department stores and drug stores? The most important difference is that these skin care lines are hand-picked by the doctors for maximum effectiveness and can only be obtained through a physician's office, as they contain ingredients in higher doses than would otherwise be available to the public. Some of those ingredients are as follows:

  • Glycolic Acid: This targets the superficial layers of the skin, increasing skin collagen levels. Its primary use is exfoliation and skin cell renewal.
  • Salicylic Acid: This works on the deeper layers of the skin and is helpful in treating fine lines and wrinkles, as well as acne.
  • Hydroquinone: This skin lightener helps even the skin tone and helps control areas of hyperpigmentation through suppression of melanin pigment in the skin cells.
  • Kojic Acid: This is an anti-microbial agent and is helpful in treating hyperpigmentation. It is sometimes used together with hydroquinone.
  • Vitamin C: This versatile ingredient acts primarily as a super anti-oxidant and repairs and prevents collagen breakdown, thus strengthening the skin layers. Once again, only products with small percentages of this are available outside a physician's office.
  • Lactic Acid: This humectant can be beneficial in the treatment of acne.

With so many things available, you'll need help in developing a skin care regiment specifically tailored to your skin type and lifestyle. You'll also need periodic adjustments in your skin care routine to adapt to environment and seasonal changes (dryer skin in winter).
